Stephen E. Wong, Ph.D., Associate Professor

Dr. Wong has a B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles, an M.A. from California State University at Los Angeles, an M.S.W. from the University of Washington, and a Ph.D. from Western Michigan University.  After completing his doctorate he worked as Research Associate with the Department of Psychiatry at UCLA and with the Camarillo Neuropsychiatric Institute in Camarillo, California. He later was employed as a program director and researcher in psychiatric hospitals and residential treatment centers in New Mexico, Florida, and Texas. Before coming to FIU, Dr. Wong was Assistant Professor in the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. Dr. Wong has conducted numerous empirical studies using social learning theory, applied behavior analysis, and single-case experimental designs to teach interpersonal and independent living skills to persons with severe and persistent mental disorders.  In recent years, Dr. Wong’s research has broadened to include the study of ideological, political, and economic forces shaping this nation’s mental health services.
