Dr. Akens came to FIU in 1993 from Bowling Green State University and has held various roles in Housing and Residential Life before beginning her current position in January of 2006 as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs on the Biscayne Bay Campus. Dr. Akens provides leadership to the Student Affairs offices on the Biscayne Bay Campus and to Residential Life on both campuses. She also teaches graduate students in the Higher Education program.
