MLK Commemoration Events a Success
The 2010 celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at FIU commenced on January 12th with the MLK Movie Night, followed by the MLK Awards and Speaker’s Reception on January 14th, the Breakfast on January 15th, MLK Day of Service on January 16, MLK Dinner on January 19th, and the MLK Youth Forum on January 20th. This year’s theme was “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of the Dream.”
The 2010 MLK Essay, Service and Peace awards were presented at the Speaker’s Reception. This year’s recipients of the MLK Essays were; First Place, Carine Khouri; second place, Susanne Morales; and 3rd place, Bennett Bonta. The Service Award recipient went to Felicia Townsend, Director of FIU Business Services, and the Peace Award recipient was Caterina Pette, an FIU Biomedical Engineering student.
Overall, more than 1000 people participated in this year’s events, making it another highly successful commemoration of Dr. King’s life and legacy.
