Departmental Spotlight

As part of a regular feature, one department in Student Affairs will be in the spotlight each month. This month we spotlight the Activities & Services (A & S) Business Office at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to assist the recipients of A&S funds by facilitating the access to use their approved funds, while providing quality support services efficiently and effectively.  

Services
One of our main customers is the Council of Student Organizations which currently has over 186 active clubs.  Other organizations include, Student Programming Council, Homecoming, Residence Hall Association, Graduate Student Association, Black Student Union, Conduct and Conflict Resolution Office, Radio Station, and assist the Campus Life Department.

The office provides the students/staff services such as:  Travel (domestic and foreign), preparation of purchase orders and commodity card purchases for events and supplies.  All transactions are maintained in the ASBO accounting shadow system, which provides on-line information to the students in regards to their club expenditures and balances.  During the spring semester the office coordinates the submission of the upcoming fiscal year budget request, along with the budget hearings and deliberations.

Whenever possible the staff volunteers for several Student Affairs programs and events.  In addition to helping students with their funding, they also provide guidance and mentoring, creating a more personal level of communication.  Many alumni come back to visit and remember all the advice provided by the office which has helped them shape their careers and personal life.
