Recreation Services Events
This past month, architects from RDG Sports visited FIU to conduct a planning study for the future expansion of the MMC Recreation Center. The three day exercise used input from students, Facilities Management and Recreation Services, coupled with RDG’s expertise, to create a vision of what the expansion should include to meet future needs. RDG was the original conceptual design firm for the current Recreation Center, and they have designed many recreation and sports facilities around the country, including the Recreation & Wellness Center at UCF and the Southwest Recreation Center at UF.
On February 12, Edwin Ryan, graduate assistant (doctoral) for fitness, presented at the FIU Center for Leadership’s “Leading Decisions – Executive Leadership Development”. This executive development program is led by former FIU President Modesto Maidique and is for top level business and institutional executives. Thirty top execs, including our current President Mark Rosenberg, were in attendance. Edwin presented on the importance of maintaining good fitness, especially at high levels of executive responsibility.
In late February, Recreation Services sponsored its 5th Annual Ski Trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Fifty students, faculty and staff traveled by bus to enjoy the snow, skiing, snowboarding and ice skating at the Ober Gatlinburg Resort over the long weekend. With this year’s recent winter weather, there was plenty of snow for all. |
