Departmental Spotlight:
As part of a regular feature, one department in Student Affairs will be in the spotlight each month. This month we spotlight the Office of Assessment & Evaluation.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Assessment and Evaluation for Student Affairs and Undergraduate Education is to support both areas in their compliance, program improvement, and data collection and analysis efforts.
Program Highlights
The Office helps Student Affairs and Undergraduate Education departments carry out large and small assessment projects: everything from reviewing survey questions for a new survey to coming up with a large-scale assessment plan for a grant application. The Director can help you and your staff with writing learning objectives, designing and carrying out surveys and focus groups, using the Flashlight Online and Qualtrics online survey tools, and analyzing current and historical program data. The Office also pulls specific data for departments on an as-needed basis (e.g., GPA’s for students participating in a program) and creates custom reports and analyses. With FIU’s adoption of the Global Learning for Global Citizenship Quality Enhancement Program, the Office will be working with many departments to identify and track ways in which they increase students’ global awareness and engagement.
