The International Students Club (ISC) at Biscayne Bay Campus is a club that welcomes international and domestic students of all ages and backgrounds. Not only does ISC organize successful events, but more importantly ISC functions as a support mechanism for international students. Members of the club attend each immigration orientation hosted by the office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) to welcome new international students to the FIU community and invite them to become involved in the club’s activities. The club provides international students with the opportunity to socialize and to interact with others who may be going through similar experiences. Furthermore, the club’s events, such as Chinese New Year and International Education Week, provide the international students with an avenue to share their own culture and traditions with others, thus helping ISC fulfill its mission of fostering diversity and cross-cultural understanding on the Biscayne Bay Campus.

Recently, the club decided to venture off campus and spend a day at the beach before finals. On Saturday, April 12, they took a bus to the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo. They reserved a bus that held 30 people, and the slots for this trip filled up so fast that the club is considering making it an annual event, providing a larger bus that can accommodate more students in the future. It was no surprise that the event was a success, since the trip was organized so that the transportation, lunch and a glass bottom boat tour cost students only $20. It also gave those students an opportunity to get off campus who normally aren’t able to. It was a beautiful day in the Keys and there was great interaction among students.

The International Students Club (ISC) at BBC was recognized for their hard work this year with the “Best Club of the Year” Award at the Tri-Council Awards. ISC was also a finalist in the categories of “Spirit” and “Shining Star” at the Division of Student Affairs Outstanding Student Life Awards.
