2012 Spring Triathlon Held

he Biscayne Bay Campus Recreation department held FIU’s first multisport event, the 2012 FIU BBC Spring Triathlon. The event consisted of a .25 mile swim, 10-mile bike, and 3.1 mile run, originating and ending at the Biscayne Bay Campus. The race was a huge success and brought over 320 athletes to FIU and incorporated all of the campus grounds. Spectators cheered on their loved ones as they exited the bay behind the Kovens Conference Center, cycled through North Miami, returned to campus and ran past housing and finally across the finish line next to the FIU Aquatic Center. In addition to being the first group event for the FIU Triathlon Club, the race raised $700 for the SAA/BBC Recreation scholarship.

The event was made successful by the leadership of Christina Reddick, Race Director, and the FIU Triathlon committee members that included various departments from both campuses. The event reached out to numerous local businesses and city officials who included FIU alum, Alex Lai of Alex’s Bike Shop and Major Robert Bage of the North Miami City Police Department.
