Florida International University has selected Inspiron Logistics' Wireless Emergency Notification System or WENS to provide instant campus-wide emergency alerts to its students. In addition, the system will serve as an additional level of redundancy to communicate with internal staff, faculty and the administration.
Text-messaging is part of student life on most campuses. But, more importantly, true text-messaging (SMS) has proven to be the most reliable method of communicating when phone lines and cellular networks are congested. In order to create a safer academic environment, FIU is launching Panther Alerts to quickly disseminate emergency messages to maintain a well informed community.
Florida International University recently deployed the system and made it available to students and parents. FIU students can now sign up for Panther Alerts on the myFIU portal and faculty, staff, parents and Friends of FIU may sign up on the FIU homepage. The sign up icon will also be made available on various other websites visited by the FIU community such as FIU Parking and Transportation, Student Affairs, Wolfe University Center, FIU Emergency Management and many others. |
