Welcome Back Week at Modesto Maidique Campus
Welcome Back with a Bang! That was how you can describe the activities during fall’s Week of Welcome. This year, Campus Life stepped up the programming for students to ensure everyone had a chance to be exposed to the array of campus life at Modesto Maidique Campus. There was not a day which did not have activities. Our focus this year was highlighting student leaders and our student councils.
We used the theme “I AM FIU” as evidence to new and returning students what student involvement looks like. It all began with the SGA-MMC Field Day on the GC lawns where students took a break from their first day and enjoyed carnival games and free food. CSO had two packed days of the Club Fair in the GC Ballrooms; over 200 clubs were present and 600 students attended! It was all Greek then at the Greek Welcome Back Bar-B-Que where our 36 Greek organizations were present and introduced over 2,000 students to Greek life on campus. And it was not all about the student programmers, our Campus Life staff also got involved in tabling in the Graham Center, by putting on our Campus Life Bonanza Day, where Campus Life staff spent 2 hours in the pit, with games like Minute to Win It and Bean Bag Toss for Campus Life prizes. SPC-Student Programming Council did a great job tagging many of our students at their pit events, where students were able to make their own personalized license tags.
SPC was able to bring on the laughter too by bringing in Sailesh the Hypnotist back for a second year in a row to mesmerize and entertain our students at a sold out crowd of 500! Lastly, our students were able to show their talent at the BSU-Black Student Union “Open Mic Night” event at Chili’s to a crowd of 120….this fall Campus Life is very proud to be given an opportunity to engage so many students on their first week of class. We look forward to doing it again!
