Student Affairs Welcomes New SGA Presidents

The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to work with our newest SGA Presidents, Helena Ramirez (MMC) and Christin “Cici” Battle (BBC/Pines).  Helena and Christin are elected leaders charged with representing the needs of FIU students and allocating an approximately 11 million dollar budget to departments, clubs and organizations who provide student activities and services.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and raised in Miami, Florida, Helena Ramirez is    a senior at Florida International University, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Certificate in Law, Ethics and Society.

Within her first year at FIU, Helena became Fundraising Chair of the Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority, during which time she raised $8,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network. Soon after, she became the Student Outreach Director of the United Way of Miami-Dade at FIU, Administrative Director of Panther Camp, and Vice President of Membership of Omicron Delta Kappa at FIU.

Over the past three years, Helena has held various positions within Student Government and has been recognized as “Senator of the Year.” In spring 2010, Helena was elected by the student body to serve as Student Government            President.  In addition, President Ramirez is also the Internal and Finance Vice-Chair of the Florida Student Association.
Helena Ramirez is passionate about representing students, as displayed by her belief that the engagement of the student body is a critical aspect in creating a more robust, inclusive campus life at FIU.

Christin “Cici” Battle is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Certificate in Leadership.

Cici is an active member of the community, where she serves as the 2nd Vice president for the Florida State NAACP Youth and College Division and an AmeriCorps Strong Women Strong Girls Mentor; where she mentors young elementary school girls twice per week. She constantly makes giving back to the community a priority even with her heavy involvement on campus.

Cici has been previously involved in SGA, having served the students as the intern coordinator and then Vice President prior to presidency.

Cici was also elected as the National Outreach Officer for the United State Students Association, which is the oldest and largest student run organization in the country, representing over 4.5 million students in over 90 universities.

Cici was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in Miami, Florida, and is a graduate of Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School’s S.T.A.R.S. Magnet Dance Program.
