The Women’s Center and Alumni Relations Mentoring Program off to an Amazing Beginning

The Women’s Center and Alumni Relations recently hosted the Meet & Greet Gala for 118 participants in our Mentoring Partnerships Program. This program, which has grown since it was re-launched in 2005, matched women students in a one-on-one relationship with a woman who serves as her mentor for the academic year. Faculty, staff and alumnae serve as mentors, providing guidance and direction as they navigate through their experience at FIU and prepare for their careers or graduate school.

The purpose of the Meet & Greet Gala is to develop a community of mentorship among the diverse women, engage the pairs in a goal setting exercise and provide a foundation for each pair to begin their relationship. In addition, the Women’s Center provides separate orientation experiences for students and mentors, and workshops like “Networking for Success” and “Negotiating Skills for Women.” Each spring the Center hosts a Welcome to Spring reception and an End of the Year Celebration.
