Departmental Spotlight:
As part of a regular feature, one department in Student Affairs will be in the spotlight each month. This month we spotlight the Women’s Center.
Mission Statement:
The Women's Center at FIU provides women with programs and services related to their intellectual, professional, social and emotional growth. We educate and advocate for systemic changes that will improve the lives of women and men.
Programs and Services:
- Women’s Center and Alumni Relations Mentoring Partnerships Program
- Wild Succulent Women – controversial topical discussions held in the residence halls each month
- Strong Women, Strong Girls – mentoring program with a structured curriculum for girls in grades 3 – 5
- Sisterhood Retreat – a weekend adventure held each fall at an off- campus location
- Women’s Empowerment Week – a week of events facilitated with the PanHellenic organizations
- International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – an event to promote awareness held at the BBC
- Women Who Lead – a day-long conference held in March on each of our campuses
- Take Back the Night – a student led program designed to bring awareness regarding the issues of sexual assault and domestic violence at MMC
- Advocacy for women’s and men’s organizations and for GLBT and diversity issues
- SafeZone
