Civility Initiative at FIU Baseball

On February 18, the FIU Civility Initiative held an event at the men’s baseball season opener against Southern Louisiana University. The Civility Initiative members were joined by SGA, IFC and FIU Athletics, and honored men’s Baseball player Mason McVay. McVay is FIU’s nominee for the 2011 NCAA Sportman of the Year Award.

At the event, students were asked to sign a civility pledge card, pledging to uphold the mission of the Civility Initiative and the concepts of respect, integrity and community. In exchange for their pledge, students received a free Civility T-shirt and were asked to wear the shirt as they sat in the stands. Over 300 cards were signed and the stands were filled with the civility message.
