Good Business Etiquette Helps Students Outshine the Competition
Have you ever felt like the odd one out at a formal dinner? Questions like “which fork is for salad?” and “What should I do with my napkin?” might leave you wondering if everyone else at the table knows what you do not. However, chances are you are not the only one wondering. In an increasingly informal world, it is easy to overlook things deemed fussy or old fashioned, but being aware of business dining etiquette offers a unique and effective way to gain a competitive edge if you find yourself being interviewed for a job over a meal. Turn the table and imagine you are the potential employer. All other things being equal, wouldn’t you be impressed with the applicant versed in table manners and business etiquette? It could make or break a job offer.
This is why the Career Services Office offers Business Etiquette training to our students and alumni. At an actual meal, a guest speaker will lead participants through all the stages of how to act and what to avoid during a business lunch or dinner, from appetizers through dessert.
This semester, the Business Etiquette Dinner will take place on Monday, March 7, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Biscayne Bay Campus Wolfe University Center Ballrooms.
