FIU’s Diversity Day at Biscayne Bay Campus

Each year an enthusiastic committee consisting of faculty, staff, and students gather to plan Diversity Day. This annual program, sponsored by SGA, was created to increase awareness and appreciation of diversity at FIU and in our community. Celebrating 11 years this October, this event has become a tradition of our Biscayne Bay Campus.

Topics vary every year at Diversity Day. However participants can always count on a very engaging experience! Our program has received excellent reviews from the students attending, particularly the choice of speakers/topics, the delicious luncheon, the student public speaking contest and the interactive exercises.

This year’s Diversity Day will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 10:45 AM – 3:15 PM in the Wolfe University Center. The program will highlight speaker Brian C. Johnson, presenting “Reel Diversity” and Colleen Fix, who will speak on disability issues, followed by a panel of people with disabilities for a Q and A session. Also scheduled is Jaed Coffin, author of “A Chant to Soothe Wild Elephants”, the first year common reading book. This year we are accepting entries to a student photo contest and will display the winning photos on Diversity Day. For more information, contact Diann Newman at 919-4523 or Craig Cunningham at 919-5950.
