Staff Spotlight
The Bright Idea Award is designed to recognize an individual or group who has, in the past year, created an innovative program or service consistent with the mission and values of Student Affairs. The new program or service should be one that improves efficiency, customer service, and/or significantly enhances accomplishment of the Division goals.
This past October the Bright Idea Award was presented to The Administrative Committee within the Department of Housing and Residential Life. Members include: Gisela Vega, Adam Schwarz, Maria Angel Reyes-Ruiz, Tyler Groll, Maria Gonzalez, Estela Penabad, and Belinda Rosales.
The Administrative Committee, made up of staff from throughout Housing and Residential Life, was charged with analyzing the administrative processes within the Department of Housing and Residential Life in an effort to provide recommendations and changes that would further enhance the department’s overall effectiveness and efficiency. This group examined a variety of processes and forms related to health and safety inspections, check-in, transfers, room reservations, and more.
One ting the group did was to enhance their efforts to prepare for the large check-in process of 3,000 residents. After researching best practices at other institutions, an alphabetical check-in pilot program was developed to better organize the arrival times of new students and families. A variety of marketing was used to communicate with students before they arrived to campus. These efforts, combined, resulted in a successful, smooth check-in process, with positive feedback from staff, students, and parents.
We are proud to have this group of outstanding individuals as members of The Division of Student Affairs.
