Katie McGee

This past October Katie McGee was recognized with one of the Division’s Distinguished Performance Awards as New Employee of the Year.
Katie McGee has served as the Assistant Director for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution since June, 2006. Katie is a graduate of Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia and received her Master’s Degree in Higher Education from Florida State University.

Katie was recognized for the leadership she exhibited when, after being on the job just a few weeks, she was asked to take charge of the office while her supervisor was out. Katie led her team “professionally and calmly,” said her nominator. Her nominator also made note of Katie’s friendliness, ‘southern ways’, knowledge, and varied experiences that made her an asset to the office and allowed the department to run smoothly. Katie has also contributed to the greater University community by volunteering her time to advise Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and the Miss FIU Scholarship Pageant.
We are proud to have Katie McGee as part of our team in the Division of Student Affairs.

Angel Garcia

This past October Angel Garcia was recognized with one of the Division’s Distinguished Performance Awards as New Employee of the Year.

Angel Garcia, a graduate of FIU, has been a part of the Division of Student Affairs for just a year, but he has already made an enormous impact.  He possesses a desire to get involved, and has pursued numerous opportunities to serve the Division and the University.  In less than a year, Angel has served on a number of committees: the Student Affairs Development Committee, Student Affairs Website Taskforce, Welcome Week Committee, FIU Men’s Initiative Committee, FIU Civility Taskforce, just to name a few.  Angel believes that getting involved allows him to do a better job.  As a new coordinator in the Center for Leadership & Service, Angel organized the largest Academy of Leaders class ever.  He helped plan “LiveStrong Day” to provide education and awareness about cancer treatment and survival, participated in training for the Residential Life Professional Staff, was Master of Ceremonies for the Annual Charity Ball, presented “Student Development Theory” for BBC Student Affairs Staff, and co-taught a section of the first year experience class.  One nominator wrote, “Angel is extremely dedicated and provides the University with many extra hours of service, not because he has to, but because he wants the best for FIU and its students. He is an amazing new professional.”

We are proud to have Angel Garcia as part of our team in the Division of Student Affairs.
