Julie Wilbers
This past month, Julie Wilbers was recognized with one of the Division’s Distinguished Performance Awards for New Employee of the Year.
Every year we have the honor of being joined by some exceptional new employees. The New Employee of the Year award is an opportunity to honor an individual who began working at FIU within the past year, and who has had a significant impact at the University and in the Division.
Julie Wilbers is a Coordinator in the International Students and Scholars Services Office at the Biscayne Bay Campus. In the short time that Julie has been here, she has demonstrated her commitment to service and diversity. In addition to her significant contributions to the ISSS office and as advisor to the International Student Club, Julie has been involved with supporting BBC’s new Stonewall organization and a variety of programs through the Women’s Center. But it is with the international students that Julie has made her greatest impact. In these short few months, she organized a boat trip, a “Release Week” to teach students about relaxation and massages, and a spring break trip to Key Largo. Julie implemented a mini session about cross cultural adjustment which has since become part of Immigration Orientation. One of her nominators writes, “Julie has shown remarkable leadership and is deeply dedicated to student life.”
We are proud to have Julie Wilbers as part of our team in the Division of Student Affairs. |
