Sabrena O’Keefe / November 2012
The New Employee Award is designed to recognize an individual who began working at FIU on or after June 1 of the previous year. Since then, this individual has had a significant impact at the University and in the Division.
The recipient of this year’s New Employee Award is Sabrena O’Keefe.
From the second Sabrena O’Keefe arrived at FIU in July of 2011 as the Assistant Director at the Center for Leadership & Service and the Women’s Center at the Biscayne Bay Campus, she hit the ground running and never looked back. From her very first challenge of overseeing the move to a brand new office space, to the responsibilities of managing multiple departments and programs, Sabrena’s passion and energy for her work with students has been evident. Sabrena’s nominators lauded her accomplishments in increasing BBC participation in programming such as the Academy of Leaders, Alternative Breaks, the Breast Cancer Walk and many more. If this wasn’t enough, she has created new programs, served key roles on multiple committees, has gone above and beyond her service to students, and has even addressed her own professional development needs by participating in the New Professional Group and Leadership Development Institute.
Sabrena is also highly respected as a colleague. One nominator said: “Her input is sought out always. Her ability to enact change and help facilitate that transition has been nothing short of amazing…her presence in one year at FIU has created a sense of stability, professionalism, confidence and energy at BBC that is unmatched.”
We are proud to have Sabrena O’Keefe as a member of The Division of Student Affairs.
