Vicky Owles
This past October, Vicky Owles was recognized with one of the Division’s Distinguished Performance Awards for Professional Development.
Vicky Owles serves as the Associate Director for Campus Life and Orientation at the Biscayne Bay Campus. Vicky has been active in the realm of professional development, locally, nationally, and internationally. At FIU her contributions include coordinating the Graduate Development Series at Biscayne Bay Campus, teaching and presenting in First-Year Experience classes, advising Panther Camp students and the new BBC Stonewall student organization, and serving on the Commencement, Freshmen Convocation, and Biscayne Bay Retention committees. For the past two years, Vicky shared her expertise in student advising with colleagues at the American Student Government Association’s Advisor’s conference. There, she presented two workshops, “The Wise Advisor” and “Student Development Theory: What’s Chickering got to do with it?” As a result of her success, the American Student Government Association on behalf of the U.S. State Department, asked Vicky to present three workshops in three cities in the Ukraine on student leadership and activism, as well as ethical and moral development of student leaders. In addition to her professional involvement and presentations, Vicky has also made steady progress this past year on her dissertation proposal. “Perhaps most important of all,” states her nominator, “I see in Vicky’s daily interactions with students, her utmost care and concern for their personal and professional growth.”
We are proud to have Vicky Owles as part of our team in the Division of Student Affairs. |
