This past October, Dorret Sawyers was recognized with one of the Division’s Distinguished Performance Awards for Service.
Dorret Sawyers has been with FIU for 15 years and currently serves as the Director of Multicultural Programs and Services on the Biscayne Bay Campus.
Dorret is a dedicated, hard working and motivated professional who has made significant contributions to the Division of Student Affairs and the University community. This past year, Dorret served as a co-chair for the University-wide Scholarship Committee and co-chair for the Division Staff Development Committee. Additionally, Dorret co-chairs the MLK Commemorative Celebration and assumes responsibility for the annual Youth Forum event, the MLK Essay competition and the Peace and Service Award. Dorret is a member of the Diversity Day committee at BBC and this past year served on the Vice Provost’s Retention Task Force. She has also chaired the SAGE Fundraising Program committee, and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree. Dorret is an outstanding professional and her involvement truly shows her commitment to FIU. The colleagues who nominated Dorret cited both her service to the University and her commitment and service to improving the educational pursuits and retention of students.
