Ralph S. Clem, Ph.D.

Professor of International Relations

   Ralph S. Clem is a Professor of International Relations and Director of the Center for Transnational and Comparative Studies at Florida International University, Miami.  

    He received the Ph.D. degree in Geography and Soviet Studies from Columbia University in 1975.  Dr. Clem is the author, co-author, or editor of several books and numerous scholarly articles and conference papers on the Soviet nationalities problem, population trends in the USSR, and most recently, the electoral geography of Russia.  He has received research grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the National Council for Russian and East European Research, the U.S. Department of State, and the U.S. Department of Education.  

   Dr. Clem has been a fellow at the Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and at the Harriman Institute of Columbia University.  He was awarded the Ryder Corporation Excellence in Teaching Award and the Professional Excellence Award of the State University System of Florida.
