  • FIU Turkish Student Association has organized a picnic at Crandon Park (North Beach), Biscayne Beach, April 17, 2005.


Turkish Night 2004

  • Turkish Night 2003 was held on November 15, 2003 at FIU's University Park Campus located in Miami. Our pictures are available in our Photo Album of Turkish Night 2003. Pictures are mostly taken by Can Dede, President, and Seckin Gokaltun, Vice President, of FIU TSA.


TSA Welcome Party 2000

  • The Last Turkish Night of the Millennium was held at FIU's Panther Suite Saturday, November 20, 1999. Check our Photo Album Fall'99. We collected donations to send to the Earthquake Victims of Duzce.
  • FIU's Annual Turkish Night Fall'98 was held at the Presidential Suite on November 21, 1998. A larger group of people including FIU and UM students, faculty as well as families living in South Florida joined us for the occasion. Our special guest was Latif Bolat who performed Turkish music and sang Turkish songs. Deniz Yavas, 10-year old son of Drs. Feryal and Mehmet Yavas, cheered the crowd by playing Konyalim, Katibim and Reyhan with his violin. Cenkhan and Denkhan played guitar and sang beautiful songs as if professional musicians. Veysi Erkilic from New England Financial sponsored our night and provided a present of one-day use of a pool cabin at Fontainebleau Hilton Resort & Towers, 4441 Collins, Miami Beach. Ilker from Ft. Lauderdale was the lucky winner of pool cabin. TSA presented 15 other presents to our guests. Singing of Onuncu Yil Marsi marked one of the highlights of the night.

  • TSA co-sponsors UM-FIU Turkish Night: FIU's TSA co-sponsored the UM-FIU Turkish Night held at UM's Rathskeller on October 24, 1998. The night featured Turkish folk dance, a belly dancer, and Turkish food. Turkish Consul-General Fuat Tanlay from New York was the guest of honor.

  • FIU team attends The First Turkish Student Associations Conference, Washington, D.C: Mehmet Ali Ulubasoglu, FIU TSA President, Isa Bezirci, TSA Vice President, and Figen Gunozgen, TSA member, attended the First Turkish Student Associations Conference held in Washington, D.C., on October 9-11, 1998 to represent FTSA (Florida Turkish Student Association) and FIU TSA.

  • 1998-99 Elections: TSA Officers were elected by e-mail voting. The officers are as follows: Mehmet Ali Ulubasoglu and Isa Bezirci continue as President and Vice President, respectively. Cenkhan Samilgil is elected for the first time as Tresaurer, and Tunc Uluc, who also represents the Turkish presence at North Campus, is our Secretary this year. Congratulations to our elected officers.

  • New Turkish Students at FIU: TSA governing body and members met with the new Turkish students on Wednesday, September 2, and again Friday, September 11, 1998. We welcome all our new friends arriving in Miami.

  • FTSA:  FIU TSA participated in the founding of FTSA, Florida Turkish Student Association, an umbrella association for all TSAs across the State of Florida. FIU's Mehmet Ali Ulubasoglu serves as Treasurer, Isa Bezirci as Secretary, and Dr. Sabri Tosunoglu as a member of the Honorary Council for FTSA.

  • The FIU and UM TSAs organized a Soccer Tournament between two sister associations. FIU team beat UM by 7 to 5 in the first game on February 14, 1998. The second game score: FIU: 11 - UM: 5, February 21, 1998; third game score: FIU: 7 - UM: 3, February 28, 1998; fourth game: FIU: 9 - UM: 8, March 7, 1998...

  • Tea Party: TSA organized a Tea Party to provide a forum to have its new members meet the rest of the Turkish community in Miami. The get-together was held at the Gazebo Area next to the Student Dorms (by the SW 107th Avenue) on the University Park Campus on Sunday, February 8, 1998. Isa's Baklavas, and Mehmet Ali's tea and Ulker biscuits were the favorites of the day.

  • TSA participated in the Seker Bayrami Party held at the Hugh Taylor Birch State Recreation Area. The event was organized by the FTAA (Florida Turkish-American Association) located in Boca Raton, and held on Sunday, February 1, 1998.

  • TSA donated $100 to Turkey's Eight-Year Uninterrupted Education project.

  • TR Night: The Fourth Turkish Night was organized at FIU's Panther Suite on November 21, 1997. As usual, Ismail showed his expertise in food preparation. Tacku, Mehmet Ali and Isa organized the event.

  • Organized a Beach Party at Oleta River State Recreation Area right across FIU's beautiful North Campus, Saturday, June 28, 1997. We thank especially Serkan and Ismail for preparing delicious Turkish food for the day.

  • Turkish Night 97: Sponsored the Turkish Night Spring'97 held at the Flamingo Ballroom, University Center, University of Miami, on May 3, 1997.

  • Elections: After the graduation of President Ali Kocyigit and Vice-President Hasan Anlar, TSA elected the new Executive Committee in April 1997. The new committee members are as follows: President: Tug Tacku Arkan, Vice President: Ismail Karadag, Treasurer: Muharrem Kulekci, and Secretary: Gence Alton.

  • TR Night: Organized the Second Annual Turkish Night jointly with the University of Miami's Turkish Student Association at FIU's Graham Center, Presidential Suite, Saturday, November 9, 1996.

  • Sponsored the Southeastern Economic Theory and International Trade Conference held between November 1 and 3, 1996 at the Roz and Kal Kovens Conference Center located at FIU's North Campus.

  • Joined the FIU Club Fair, September 1996.

  • Best Cook in the World: Wished Get Well to Ismail, August 1996.

  • The First TR Night: Organized the First Turkish Night of Miami, April 20, 1996, FIU Graham Center, Presidential Suite.

  • FIU TSA WEB Homepage Went Online, April 19, 1996.

  • Joined the FIU Club Fair, February 12, 1996, FIU Ball Room.

  • Participated in the FIU Club Fair, November 12, 1995, FIU Ball Room.
