Mission Statement of the UEA

Among our goals and aspirations are:

§           to enhance the quality of the student experience within the Economics Department at FIU,

§           to promote camaraderie amongst students and faculty,

§           to provide opportunities for networking in the professional world,

§           to provide a forum for discussion of interesting topics in the area of Economics, and

§           to encourage students to undertake further pursuits in Economics.

The main idea and purpose of this club is to encourage student interaction and participation in events and activities outside of the class room environment. By creating opportunities for students to interact and network with each other and faculty, we hope to enhance to student experience and encourage further interest in the subject. The Economics Department is small compared to others in FIU so it is easier for students to get to know and interact with each other. Also it is easier to get to know faculty a little better. This club aims to bridge the gap between students and their peers and students and faculty. We provide a forum for discussion and further pursuit of interest in the subject. Through our extensive network of members already in the professional world, we provide great opportunities to learn from their experience and possibly also make contacts that would aid in members' career paths. We also host various speakers and discussion forums, where contemporary topics of interest can be discussed. Tutoring opportunities and services are available and provided by members as well. Apart from becoming a member, students have the opportunity to become a member of the executive board and further develop their organizational, management and leadership skills. Although it seems like serious business, we do have fun. From our barbeques to nights out to our sports day, members have the opportunity to interact in a very social and fun atmosphere. The benefits of becoming a member are very great as most employers see this as a positive aspect in a student's college experience.
