DESCRIPTION: Hands-on science museum and wildlife center that is committed
to promoting science literacy and hands-on scientific investigation.
OPPORTUNITIES: Serve as an interpreter for Museum visitors, provide assistance
in guiding visiting groups, explain exhibits, or perform demonstrations.
Also available are positions in general maintenance and husbandry of captive
reptiles and birds of prey and assisting with hands-on teaching about
South Florida's environmental issues.
HOURS NEEDED/SCHEDULE: Monday - Sunday, 10 am. - 6 p.m.
COMMENTS: A minimum of 40 hours a semester commitment is preferred. Many
opportunities to work with the public and with kids.

DESCRIPTION: Miami Norland Senior High services approximately 2100 students
in grades 9-12, and is a school committed to giving its students a wonderful
educational experience.
OPPORTUNITIES: One-on-one tutoring in writing. Gives students an opportunity
to work with an
M-DCPS teacher who is also a part time Miami-Dade faculty member. Students
will have the opportunity to become familiar with the Miami-Dade County
Public School system. This is a great opportunity for education majors.
HOURS NEEDED: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 2:30 p.m.
COMMENTS: Must be dedicated to helping the students being tutored to become
good writers. Working as a tutor will help to hone your writing skills.
MIAMI
RESCUE MISSION, 2159 NW 1st Court, Miami, FL 33127

DESCRIPTION: Shelter for men, women, and boys up to age 5 yrs. Also provides
food, shelter, clothing, counseling and an 8-month to one-year residential
program.
OPPORTUNITIES: Help is needed preparing and serving food, mentoring/tutoring
children & adults, and sorting clothing. There are also special projects
i.e. food collection, and events during the holidays.
HOURS NEEDED: M-F 9am - 10pm; Weekends, 8am - 1pm & 4pm - 10pm; minimum
30 hours per semester.
COMMENTS: There is a dress code and an application must be filled out
to participate at Miami Rescue Mission. Please call Peggy between the
hours of 7:30am-2:30pm, Monday - Friday to schedule an appointment.

DESCRIPTION: Volunteers are need to tutor students in ABE, GED, ESOL,
and citizenship classes, during the evening hours, 4:45-9:30pm.
OPPORTUNITIES: Volunteers can earn community service hours which observing
the role of a teacher in a classroom setting.
