DESCRIPTION: Pelican Harbor Seabird Station is dedicated to the rescue,
rehabilitation and release of injured seabirds, mainly Brown Pelicans.
Education is an important aspect of our nonprofit organization.
OPPORTUNITIES: This opportunity involves all aspects of the daily operations
and maintenance of a wildlife rehabilitation center. Tasks are varied;
form cleaning cages to assisting in the release of healthy birds.
HOURS NEEDED: Students needed 1 to 2 students per 3-hour morning shift.
One shift per week for a minimum of 5 weeks. Shifts are from 9 a.m. to
noon Monday through Friday. Please call for availability.
COMMENTS: If you love wildlife and enjoy varied duties, if you don't mind
getting dirty and would enjoy working on beautiful Biscayne Bay with a
fun bunch of people then Wendy is waiting to hear from you.

DESCRIPTION: No kill animal shelter for dogs and cats. They try to find
good homes for animals.
OPPORTUNITIES: Transporting animals to the vet and local pet stores for
adoption, dog/cat bathing and grooming, facility maintenance, special
awareness program.
HOURS NEEDED: R, Sat, and Sun, 11:00am - 4:00pm.
COMMENTS: Three hours per week & orientation.
PROJECT SHINE (Students Helping in the Naturalization of Elders), University

DESCRIPTION: Links college students with older immigrants seeking to learn
English and move along the path to US citizenship.
OPPORTUNITIES: Students tutors help the elder population practice for
the citizenship interview and teach the US history and civics needed to
pass the citizenship exam.
HOURS NEEDED: Varies
COMMENTS: Minimum of 20-hour commitment is required. Training is provided.
