How
do I apply for Housing?
To apply complete a housing
application and submit it with the required deposit to the FIU Housing
Office. The $150.00 deposit and processing fee must be submitted to
the Housing Office with the application. The $100.00 serves as a security
deposit refundable in full, less any damage charges, at the end of
the Housing Agreement period. The $50.00 is a processing fee. This
is a one time fee assessed with initial application, or reapplication
where a break in on-campus residency has occurred.
PLEASE NOTE: No cash or
credit cards accepted. Payments must be made in United States funds
by check, money order, or traveler's checks.
While applicants may request
certain types of units or special programs, all assignments are based
on available space. As single rooms are rarely available for new students,
most residents have one or more roommates. The most typical unit is
a two bedroom apartment with four students sharing a common living/dining
area, small kitchen, and bath. All assignments are made on a first
come first serve basis. Early application is encouraged as space is
limited.
What happens after
I apply?
Applicants are issued
a Housing Agreement for a type of unit at the current approved rate.
Once the student signs and returns the Agreement, it is binding for
the FALL and SPRING semesters. Students entering for the Spring or
Summer semesters sign a one semester Agreement only.
In order to initiate a
cancellation of the Housing Agreement, the student must complete a
cancellation form. The Housing Agreement may be canceled if one of
the following conditions are met:
-
the student withdraws
from
-
the University the
student participates in an academic program which requires residence
outside the Dade/Broward area
-
the student is dismissed
or suspended for academic reasons
-
the student graduates
and does not continue as an enrolled student in another program
The University will
assess a $100.00 cancellation fee for the cancellation of the Agreement
upon approval. For further information about cancellation procedures
refer to the Housing Agreement.
