"A government that is big enough to give you all you want is big enough to take it all away."

Barry Goldwater

Welcome to the FIU Young Americans for Freedom website

The last official meeting for Spring 2005 will be on Tuesday April 12, at 6:30pm on the patio of Gracie's Grill (look for the YAF logo banner). In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be inside Gracie's Grill near the door to the patio area.  Our regular Summer & Spring 2005 meeting dates are still to be determined.

FIU YAFer Spotlight

FIU YAFers including Former VP Sean Savitt, and current officers Ian Merkel and Cesar Vasquez upheld a 12 year old tradition on election day November 2, 2004.

Every election cycle, YAFers attend the victory party for whichever one of the major Presidential candidates they feel better represents conservative values and issues. This year, YAFers attended the Bush/Cheyney re-election victory party which lasted till past 2am due to the closeness of the vote.

YAFers Ian Merkel and Sean Savitt hold up Bush/Cheyney campaign literature (left). FIU YAFer Cesar Vasquez holds up a "Sportsmen for Bush" sign (right). Above, a giant screen monitors the vote count as reported by various different networks.

Note:YAF is a non-partisan organization and does not formally endorse any candidate or any political party.

Young Americans for Freedom is America's oldest and most respected conservative youth organization. YAF was founded in 1960 and was pivotal winning Barry Goldwater the Republican Presidential nomination.

Locally, FIU YAF was founded during the 1992 Presidential campaign, and has been active through the years participating in such varied events as presidential campaigns, the 2000 recount protests, and the 9/11 rememberances.

Following the September 11 2001 terrorist attacks, FIU YAF issued these buttons to it's members and gave them out at recruitment tables .
We were all affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Throughout the years, Young Americans for Freedom was at the forefront of calling for stronger national defense and dealing with terrorist organizations effectively.

In this a time for national unity and introspection, YAF joins the rest of the nation in rememberance of the victims of these crimes and those affected by them. We also call for the nation to rally behind President Bush in the war on terrorism, and call for swift justice against the perpetrators of these crimes.

Below are a few links dealing specifically with the 9-11 attacks. FIU YAF would like to make one suggestion to anyone who thinks they can not possibly make a difference;

Fly your flag and fly it proudly!

  • Saved by the militia: Read about how the only one of the hijacked planes was kept from its target by the intervention of the unorganized militia.
  • Deception for Dollars: Were the attacks of 9/11/2001 actually the second round of attacks against the United States? If so, what were the first?
  • FIU YAF resolution: Read our take on what the President had to say on September 20, 2001
  • Only guns can stop Terrorists: Read John Lott's WSJ article about how it's harder to victimize armed citizens.
  • Are You Ready?  Although we at YAF are by no means alarmists, we do believe in self reliance and preparedness.  In this spirit, we'd like to refer you to a publication by the Federal Emergency Management Agency entitled "A Guide to Citizen Preparedness."

History of YAF at FIU

FIU YAF has been around since 1992, and has a long and distinguished history of activism.

YAF officers participate in the 2000 Presidential election recount protest.  YAFers
helped out by handing out printed and home made signs as well as leading
the crowd in political chants and in singing the Star Spangled Banner.
