Persuasion vs Force

Since our declaration on May Day 1998, the responce to our Marxism on trial propositiion, has been staggering. People from all sides of the political spectrum have written in to give their opinions. As we continue gathering information, and data leading up to May Day 1999, we will continue to post responces and opinions about holding Marx and Marxism accountable for its results.

MARXISM ON TRIAL:
A DECLARATION The connection between socialism and nationalism in Germany was close from the beginning. It is significant that the most important ancestors of National Socialism -- Fichte, Robertus, and Lasalle -- are at the same time acknowledged fathers of socialism. While theoretical socialism in its Marxist form was directing the German labor movement, the authoritarian and nationalist element receded for a time into the background. But not for long. From 1914 onward there rose from the ranks of Marxist socialism one teacher after another who led, not the conservatives and reactionaries, but the hardworking laborer and idealist youth into the Nationalist Socialist fold. It was only thereafter that the tide of nationalist socialism attained major importance and rapidly grew into the Hitlerian doctrine.
